Our beginning

The Heart Behind the Light

One little life became a light for many families.

LaSaaun Lives Foundation was created in loving memory of our son, LaSaaun Jarell Tyiska Smith, who was born sleeping on April 22, 2020.

What began as our family’s journey through stillbirth, grief, remembrance, and healing grew into a commitment to make sure other families do not have to navigate difficult seasons alone.

Our work began with loss. But listening to families taught us something bigger: support cannot begin only after something goes wrong.

Families need information during pregnancy. Mothers need support. Fathers and partners need to be included. Families need trusted resources. Communities need places to heal. And when a baby dies, that baby’s life and their family’s grief deserve to be acknowledged.

Today, LaSaaun Lives Foundation works to support families before, during, and beyond birth while continuing to honor the babies whose lives inspired this work.

Rooted in Strength™

Fathers Need Support During Pregnancy, Too.

Pregnancy changes the whole family.

Rooted in Strength™: A Father’s Guide to Pregnancy & Beyond helps fathers and partners understand how to support the mother, prepare for the baby, manage their own stress, communicate, advocate, and remain present throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

Built from lived experience and community fatherhood work, the guide helps answer a question fathers often carry quietly:

“What am I supposed to do?”

Community

Butterfly Hyve

A Space for Mothers, Families, Healing & Transformation.

Butterfly Hyve is our space for maternal wellness, motherhood, healing, pregnancy and postpartum support, family connection, and life after loss.

“Like the butterfly, healing does not mean returning to who we were before. Sometimes healing means becoming.”

The Hyve creates room for women and families to connect, receive support, access resources, and move through life’s transitions in community.

A space to heal, connect, and become.

RELL SPEAKS

RELL Speaks father-to-father conversation during a community panel discussion

Speak Truth • Stand Firm • Honor Legacy

Some men will walk into a support group.
Some will not.
Sometimes the doorway is a voice that sounds like something they have lived.

RELL Speaks uses spoken word, reflection, storytelling, and father-to-father truth to explore fatherhood, grief, identity, discipline, emotional wellness, healing, purpose, and legacy.

These are conversations for men becoming more intentional about the fathers, partners, leaders, and human beings they are becoming.

Remembrance

Their Names Still Matter.

Pregnancy and infant loss can leave families feeling as though the world moved forward while a piece of their world stopped.

We remember.

Wings of Remembrance creates spaces where babies gone too soon are honored openly, their names are spoken, and their families are surrounded by community.

Through memorial gatherings, remembrance activities, the Wave of Light, and our growing remembrance work, we affirm something simple:

A short life can leave an everlasting legacy.

Wings of Remembrance Wall

Say Their Name. Share Their Light.

The Wings of Remembrance Wall is a living memorial dedicated to babies gone too soon.

Every name represents a baby.
Every baby represents a family.
Every family deserves to know their child is remembered.
